Hands up if, like me, you tell yourself every year that you’re going to sew a bunch of Christmas gifts, but then never start on time and end up panic-sewing the night before Christmas Eve because you didn’t buy any backup gifts since you were totally going to sew that thing.
Anyone? Just me?! 👋🏼😅
This blogpost is my attempt at a little reminder (mostly for myself) that the first Sunday of Advent is next week. And while it might still feel like Christmas is ages away... it really isn’t (again, talking to myself here 🙈).
If you’re looking for fun baby gift ideas to add to your Christmas sewing list, here are a few suggestions. And, I’ve even added notes on how last-minute-sewing-friendly each project is—just in case. 😉
BADIS - A baby bath towel with a hood and bear ears.
Super quick to sew, only needs one type of fabric, and is always a hit with the recipient!
Pro tip: If sewing mitered corners for the first time sounds like a Christmas Eve meltdown waiting to happen, maybe skip this one. But if your brain is calm, my step-by-step instructions and
video tutorial will walk you through it like a pro.
MJUKISKLOSSAR -
Plush blocks These are super cozy, totally unique handmade gifts, and a joy for both babies and parents. Just don’t forget to order
memoryfoam cubes (and maybe rattles/
rattle cellophane) in advance. Perfect for using up fabric scraps!
This one takes a bit more time and effort — but it’s guaranteed to be appreciated. You’ll need two fabrics, some stuffing, and ribbon, but nothing too complicated.
LEKLÖV -
The leaf-shaped playmat
This project might seam big and daunting, but it is in fact super quick to sew! You’ll need two large pieces of fabric and a batting. To save time, you can skip sewing the “leaf veins” and just simply stitch around the edges instead.
This is the fastest and easiest project on my list! You can whip these up by the dozen the night before, and they are one of the best babygifts to make in my opinion. Just make sure you have some rattle cellophane on hand, and you’re good to go.
Now, I knot this is not technically a Christmas gift, but it's definitely something fun to sew during Advent. I’ve made matching Luvises for the whole family, and I’ll definitely wear these over store-bought ones any day. 🥰
I hope this gives you a little inspiration for your Christmas sewing — and maybe even gives you a gentle nudge to start making those gifts now to avoid the last-minute sewing chaos this year. 😉
Let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything else I can help with!
Until next time,
Happy (Christmas) sewing! 🎄
