When you're expecting your first baby, it can be a bit tricky to figure out exactly what you'll need, use, or want to have at home. And while there's a wealth of information about what others have loved (thanks to moms generously sharing their experiences), you never truly know what will work for you until you're in the moment.
Before Maja was born, I sewed and DIY’d a ton of things—some of which turned out to be completely unnecessary, at least for our household.
But, I also made a bunch of things that were 100% spot-on and ended up being used daily in our home.
-
The babynest. We used this every single day for about six months. Easily one of the best things I ever made! (Bonus tip: sew a few extra mattresses for it so you only have to wash the mattress when accidents happen—not the entire nest!)
-
Badis the Baby Bath Towel. This hooded bath towel with bear ears is SO cozy! The size is perfect for babies (and even toddlers up to 2 years!) and absolutely delightful for wrapping your freshly-bathed baby in. Bonus points for looking super cute when stored in the cupboard, too. 😉
-
Prylis the Crib Pocket. This crib-side organizer holds everything you need for bedtime. Cloths, pacifiers, wipes, diapers, pajamas, toys, creams, nasal aspirators, socks—you name it. It’s incredibly handy to have all the little things that often go missing right within reach at the crib.
-
The On-The-Go Diaper Clutch + Changing Mat. This one is pure gold! This set is perfect for packing everything you need for diaper changes on the go and tossing it into the stroller or any bag. We used this every day until we potty-trained.
With this set, we’ve changed diapers in the backseat of the car, on a bench in the middle of a hiking trail, in our camper van, on random bathroom floors that didn’t have a changing table, and more. Absolutely fantastic!
In my webshop, you’ll find these patterns plus a range of other fun baby projects to sew while waiting for your little one. And psst…! All patterns (and labels) are buy 4, pay for 3. 🥳
Happy sewing! 🧵
